A Bit Of Background Regarding The Invention Of DVDs

You do know and see a lot of DVD players and we have them in almost every home. But do you know who invented it? Have you ever given a thought to what is DVD all about? Well you will find it interesting. DVDs came about because someone needed a storage devise to gather data and transport the data.

Those days the storage media was limited to floppy drives and tapes. Both supported very small file size and limited storage. Besides they did not prove to be very stable and could be easily damaged and corrupted. It was only a matter of time before technology advanced sufficiently enough to produce compact discs which could store higher capacity of data and were not easily corruptible and one could store and retrieve data easily without any loss.

As is our human mentality we tend to put up with things and use things until we find it impossible to use any item and everybody has this tendency to horde and store. So was the case with floppy disks and drives. It was voluminous but people still stored them in stacks. But the requirement of data that had to be stored was so huge that there was no other option but to look for a storage mechanism to handle huge files.

There was an urgent need felt to come up with a better mechanism and device on a new format. Many groups started working on this with each one competing with the other. But then finally we saw the experts getting together and coming up with DVD format setting aside all their differences and made inroads with new data storage methodology.

There was unprecedented demand which forced producers to immediately increase production and rush stocks to the market. In a short time the stocks were available at all retail shelves and people could easily buy and take home packs of CDs.

The markets which received the supplies of CDs first in the mid 90s were the Japanese markets and it took almost a year for the stocks to reach American consumers followed by European markets too. Today all over the world you can find them easily.

The accreditation of having invented DVD player for portable use went rightly to a Japanese company. You can say that this was the trigger for a revolution in mobile entertainment and storage industry.

The happiest consumers who loved this development were the parents who took driving vacations with family for they no longer had to stack loads of floppy disks. It was now very easy for them to carry their favorite movies and cartoons for the kids in the DVDs.
