A surgical assistant is a health care professional that assists the surgeon during a surgical procedure. Also, they inform the patient about the procedure before the surgery and prepare the tools required for the procedure. They perform the clean up and record tools used during the surgery. A surgical assistant can work in a variety of specialties such as general surgery, plastic surgery, trauma surgery, heart surgery and vascular surgery to name a few.
